Ingredients/Fillings : What are they, and How-To Assign to Shapes

A successful Foodini print is made up of 2 main elements: shapes (creations) and ingredients (fillings). Shapes/creations are the shapes that print. Ingredients/fillings are the ingredients that are loaded into the capsules and printed - into creations.

From the dish gallery, tap +Ingredient:

You'll then see the ingredient screen:

Changing the selected nozzle size will automatically adjust the ingredient list options most recommended for that particular nozzle size. If you don't see your specific ingredient you want to use, choose an ingredient with a similar texture.

The list of  Ingredients (both in Basic Ingredients and My Ingredients) always retain their default settings in the general menu. Any setting adjustments made to ingredients only affect the current dish; they do not change other dishes or the default ingredient settings.

Example: A dish named "Happy Birthday print" prints with icing that was chosen from the Basic Ingredients menu. You adjust those settings (for example, decreasing the print speed). That setting adjustment is ONLY in the "Happy Birthday print" dish. Other dishes that use the Icing from the Basic Ingredients will not be changed with the revised setting. Any ingredient adjustments will apply to the current dish only.

My Ingredients

If you would like to save an ingredient with your custom settings to use in other dishes, save it My Ingredients.  This can be done directly in a dish. Tap the ingredient you want to save. In this example, we'll save the cookie dough blue ingredient:

The Ingredient dialogue box will appear. Tap the star to save it to My Ingredients:

This ingredient now appears in My Ingredients.

You can find and adjust any of your My Ingredients from the main  menu (   ):

You can rename the ingredient, change the color, and adjust the settings. You can also add new ingredients from this screen by selecting the + on the top right.

Select My Ingredients to add to any dish:

Assigning Ingredients to Shapes

Example 1: choosing shape first and assigning ingredient

If you have a shape selected when you add an ingredient (+ Ingredient), the ingredient will automatically be assigned to the selected shape.

Example 2: creating ingredients first and then assigning to shapes

If you don't have a shape selected when you add an ingredient (+ Ingredient), then the ingredient will be added to the ingredient list in the top left of the screen. Simply select a shape, then tap an ingredient to assign it to the selected shape.

Use the Same Ingredient/Capsule to Print Shapes with Different Ingredient Settings

Sometimes you want shapes in your dishes to print with the same ingredient, but in Foodini Creator you want those shapes to appear in different colors and/or you want individual shapes to have different print settings. You can easily do this by using the same name for each ingredient in Foodini Creator.

We will use this print as an example:

Here we are printing with one ingredient, using a 1.5 nozzle. The print is made up of many peas on 4 layers /  positions. As we have so many peas on the dish and many stacked on one another, it is easier to see them in Foodini Creator by making each layer a separate color:

Additionally, we want each layer to have a different setting for the first layer nozzle height.

In essence, we are printing with one ingredient, but we really created four ingredients to be able to change the color of the shapes in Foodini Creator and to change a setting within each different layer position. ( Here you can see more details about this print.) Even though we have these multiple ingredients, Foodini only requires one ingredient/ one capsule to make the print.

To do this, simply keep the name of each "different" ingredient the same.

Note that if you have a different name for any of the ingredients, Foodini would request a separate capsule for that ingredient.

Another example:
Each star is indicated in a different color in Foodini Creator and with different print settings, but since we named each ingredient the same, Foodini uses the same capsule:

Here each ingredient name is different, so Foodini will use 4 different capsules.

This feature also comes in handy for faster test printing. For example, when we created heart puzzle cookies made with 3 different colors of cookie dough, we first made the print using one capsule / one color of cookie dough by using the feature explained above. Once we were happy with the results, we printed using the 3 different cookie dough colors.

Controlling Ingredient Capsule Bay Assignments

Foodini will automatically indicate the ingredient assignments for each  capsule bay for prints.

The order of the ingredients on the dish screen is not necessarily the order that Foodini will automatically assign ingredients in capsule bays.

For example, Foodini automatically and randomly assigns the ingredients for this print in this order:

However, sometimes you may want to control what ingredient goes in each capsule bay. For example, a bakery printing a lot of different multicolor icing designs on cookies. For ease of operation they always want to put red icing in capsule bay 1, yellow in capsule bay 2, and so on.

To control the order which ingredient goes in each capsule bay, rename the ingredients in numerical order:
