We used mashed potatoes a lot to test prints. Here's one way to make them, but of course do use your own recipe! The key is to get the texture right... you don't want it too liquid, otherwise a 3D print won't hold. Too dry and the print lines may have holes. A great way to test the texture is to put a fork or spoon standing upright in a bowl of creamy mashed potatoes. If it remains standing upright after you let go, you have a good texture.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds / 900g baking potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes; drain.
In a small saucepan heat butter and milk over low heat until butter is melted. Using a potato masher or electric beater, slowly blend milk mixture into potatoes until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
