Custom Printing Surface - Using Foodini to Manually Measure
Custom Printing Surface - Using Foodini to Manually Measure
You can print on top of another flat surface: another dish, a cookie, etc.
Note that in all cases, the Foodini dish should always be in place when printing. Place your other surface on top of the Foodini dish.
You can use Foodini to measure the height of your custom print surface: this will tell Foodini at what height to start printing.
You can use the automated measuring feature or you can use this manually measure.
With the manual method, w
e will use a capsule to act as a measuring device.
Step 1: Insert a Capsule in Bay 1
Insert a capsule in bay 1 (the capsule holder closest to the door hinge). The capsule can be empty, but make sure you have a nozzle on the capsule. Put the item you want to print on top of inside Foodini, placing it on top of the Foodini glass dish.
Take care that your custom printing surface does not cover or block the test cup area when you print.
Tap the ingredient for capsule bay 1 (in the above image, it's ICING), and tap Catch Capsule:
Foodini will retrieve capsule 1. We will use the capsule to determine the height of your item.
If you do not first select Custom... as you print surface, when you tap the ingredient you will not have the option to catch capsule:
If this happens, choose
Custom... as your surface height.
Step 3: Use the Capsule to Measure
110 is the highest the capsule can go.
0 (zero) will put the nozzle just above the Foodini glass dish.
If it is your first time using this feature, use small increments to see how Foodini reacts:
Type 100 in the box, and tap refresh (
). See now the nozzle moves.
Type 90 in the box, and tap refresh (
). See now the nozzle moves.
Type 80 in the box, and tap refresh (
). See now the nozzle moves.
Keep going with small increments until you are very familiar with the movement.
The closer you get the capsule to the printing surface, the lower the number of increments you should use. For example, go from increments of 10, to 5, to 1, increments of 0.25.
When using Foodini to determine the height of your custom surface, be very careful to have the nozzle just barely touch the print surface. If the nozzle is forced into a solid print surface, Foodini could malfunction or become seriously damaged.
You are aiming to have the nozzle just barely touch the print surface:
When you determine the height of your custom surface, either make note of it or tap the star and name your measurement to save your height settings, so you'll have easy access to it again in the future.
Step 4: Release Capsule
Now you have to tell Foodini to put the capsule back. Tap the ingredient for capsule bay 1 to get back to the Information screen, and tap Release Capsule.
Foodini will return the capsule to the bay.
When you are ready to print, you can choose your set custom base height.
